What is yoshiaki ashikaga?

Yoshiaki Ashikaga (1538-1597) was a Japanese warrior who served as the 15th shogun of the Ashikaga shogunate during the Sengoku period. He was the younger brother of the previous shogun, Yoshiteru Ashikaga, and became shogun after his brother's assassination in 1565.

During his reign, Yoshiaki struggled to maintain power and faced many challenges, including opposition from powerful daimyo lords and rival claims to the shogunate. He sought alliances with various factions, including the powerful Oda Nobunaga and Toyotomi Hideyoshi, but these alliances ultimately proved unstable.

In 1573, after a failed attempt to overthrow Nobunaga, Yoshiaki was exiled from Kyoto and fled to various regions of Japan, including the island of Shikoku. He attempted several times to regain power and establish a new shogunate, but was ultimately unsuccessful.

Yoshiaki died in 1597 in exile on the island of Kyushu. He is remembered as one of the last representatives of the Ashikaga shogunate and a symbol of the Sengoku period's political instability.
